Kyra Tripulska

Kyra is a Ukrainian filmmaker and photographer, currently based in Prague. Through her teenage years, she wrote various short stories which would win awards in several local and international competitions. And when she got her first camera, she fell in love with photography and videography, constantly shooting small shorts with her friends.

All of that led Kyra to making a final decision — pursuing film directing. After graduating high school in 2021, in the age of sixteen, Kyra got admitted to VGIK, filmmaking university in Moscow. But when the war started in her hometown, she couldn’t stay there and decided to relocate to Prague, where she continued her studies at Prague Film School.

Having grown up in coastal Odessa, her works take a lot of inspiration from the memories of the its warmth and the enigmatic Black Sea, constantly reminiscing of its tranquillity. Her films tackle themes of separation from one’s childhood, coming of age and seeking liberation amidst societal expectations.
